Competition runs from 1 September to 31 October 2014
The number of overweight people has been on the rise since the 1980s and today almost 1.5 billion people are suffering from obesity throughout the world. The figures have doubled in just 10 years amongst children - our main concern at the CyberDodo NGO.
Several factors explain this veritable epidemic (For more information, please refer to the free case file that you will find online by clicking here and to the free quiz by clicking here): genetic, poverty, Fast Food, industrial food, education, publicity, etc.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) furthermore recognised obesity as an illness in 1997 and estimated that there were 40 million children from the age of 5 years old who were overweight in 2012. The consequences are terrible: reduced life expectancy (from 50 to 75%), diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension, various illnesses, desocialisation, etc.
The good news is that we can fight against this scourge, but it must be our desire to seek help and be informed about it – and this is CyberDodo’s mission: the global dissemination of the message of respect and conservation.
We are organising this photo competition on child obesity until 31 October 2014 in order to make our members aware, particularly among the 150 countries that regularly visit www.CyberDodo.org.
